Laid out in chronological order, displays at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History trace a cultural map, beginning with ancient life in Africa and ending with modern living in Detroit. Supplementing this trail of history are various other temporary and permanent setups, including "Detroit Performs", a photo-montage of famous African American musicians and actors, and "A is for Africa!," a series of interactive activities intended for children. Active in the city's cultural life, the museum also runs or participates in many annual events and festivals throughout the year. It is in Detroit's Cultural Center Historic District, directly beside the Detroit Science Center and within a block of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
