Housed in the Lawrence Fisher Mansion, a Mediterranean Revival home built in 1922, Detroit's Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center was founded in 1975 to foster the teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and features a traditional Vedic Temple, a fine art gallery, four acres of gardens, complete with free-roaming peacocks, and a restaurant, serving vegetarian Indian fare. Visitors are invited to explore the classical and contemporary Indian artwork showcased in the gallery, meditate among the fountains and decorative pools of the gardens, or delve into one of the numerous classes, lectures, meditations sessions or feasts offered by the center. This unique attraction is located six miles east of downtown Detroit in Grosse Pointe Park, just a short walk from Lake St. Clair.
